Is my assistance dog required to have an animal passport and vaccinations?
Your assistance dog must also have their own passport, the pet passport. This passport must be issued by a qualified veterinarian and contain the following information:
- Rabies vaccinations.
Your assistance dog must be vaccinated at least 21 days before departure. - The ‘clinical examination’ section must be completed in full.
The veterinarian must declare that your assistance dog is healthy.
To fly with your assistance dog, the dog must be chipped for identification with an electronic identification system (transponder).
Please not: If your destination is Malta, then a blood test for rabies antibody titer is also required.
Tips:
Not sure about the validity of your assistance dog’s passport? Then contact your vet, they can provide you with information.
- Always make sure to take care of all vaccinations and travel documents well ahead of time.
- Contact the embassy for the country you are visiting well ahead of departure. They can provide more information on any special rules or quarantine requirements.
