What are the rules for checked baggage?
When booking your flight and at any time via MyTransavia, you can purchase checked baggage allowance tailored to your needs. You can modify your booking and baggage allowance up to two hours before your flight’s departure. Once you have checked-in, your booking can no longer be modified online. In that case, please proceed to the baggage drop-off counter at the airport.
Main checked baggage rules
- The maximum weight depends on the allowance purchased and cannot exceed 50 kg per passenger.
- You may split your purchased allowance across up to 5 pieces of baggage.
- Each individual piece may not exceed 32 kg.
- Maximum dimensions per piece (including wheels and handles): 165cm (length + width + height)
The price depends on your route and the selected allowance. For certain destinations, the maximum weight per passenger is limited to 30 kg.
If your baggage's dimensions exceed 165 cm, but not 300 cm, you will need to pay an additional fee at the airport. The fee amount depends on your booking. Baggage items measuring between 158 cm and 300 cm, must be dropped at the "Oversized Baggage" counter.
Sports equipment (golf bags, diving gear, surfboards, kitesurfing gear, hang gliders, skis, etc.) is always considered special baggage regardless of its dimensions.
Preparing your checked baggage
- You may divide your allowance into a maximum of 5 pieces.
- Please make sure your baggage does not contain any dangerous or prohibited items. For more details, see the dedicated Allowed in baggage page.
- Before arriving at the airport, remove all old tags and barcodes from previous trips.
- Clearly mark your baggage inside and outside with your name, surname, phone number, and email address.
At the airport, follow 3 steps:
- Print your baggage tags at the self-service kiosks
- Attach the tag to your baggage
- Proceed to the baggage drop-off counter
Carrying special baggage
If you plan to travel with special baggage, please declare it in advance via your MyTransavia account. You can consult informations about special baggage on the dedicated Special baggage page.
Prohibited baggage and wrapping types
Soft plastic bags and packaging made with basic materials, such as household stretch film, are not allowed.
This type of packaging may create a "ball" shape, which can cause damage to airport facilities and disrupt baggage routing.
Travel light
The lighter an aircraft, the less fuel it consumes and the lower its CO2 emissions. By reducing your baggage weight, you also reduce your carbon footprint! 1 kg less baggage per passenger equals around 52 kg of CO2 avoided on a Transavia flight (2024 data).
