What conditions must my assistance dog meet?
If you are travelling with an assistance dog, a number of conditions apply, specifically:
- Your assistance dog is certified by an organisation that is a member of Assistance dogs International (ADI), ADeu (Assistance Dogs International Europe Regional Chapter) or International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF), or registered in the AAI Quality Register. You must be able to show proof of this.
- Your assistance dog remains on the floor at your feet during the flight.
- Your assistance dog remains on a lead during the flight.
- Your assistance dog has a valid pet passport and the necessary vaccinations.
- Your assistance dog is specifically trained to perform tasks that assist with your physical, sensory, intellectual, psychiatric or other mental disability.
- Your assistance dog can be identified by a tag or harness.
All assistance dogs not certified by the aforementioned organisations are subject to the normal conditions for travelling with pets. Depending on their weight and size, these dogs may travel in the cabin or the hold, even if they are emotional support or therapy dogs.
