When travelling, small changes make a big difference. For example, travel lighter or compensate your CO2 emissions, eat at local restaurants or sleep in a sustainable hotel. This is how we can all contribute.

Travel to your destination more sustainably

Your trip is booked, and you are looking forward to it! Now the preparations begin. This is what you can do to travel more sustainably to your destination.

1

Take less luggage with you

The lighter your bag, the less fuel we consume. And this reduces the aircraft's CO2 emissions. So when packing, think about each item and whether you really need it during your trip.

Read our tips on how to travel lighter and more sustainably.

2

Compensate your CO2 emissions

We are doing a lot to make your trip more sustainable, for example by adding SAF to our airplane fuel and working towards a future with electric flying. Unfortunately, however, it is not yet possible to fly without emitting CO2. As a traveller, though, you can compensate some of your emissions. For example, through reforestation projects, as trees convert CO2 into clean air.

Here's how to travel more sustainably at your destination

You have arrived at your destination and the enjoyment can begin! Wondering what you can do to make more sustainable choices while travelling? We give you some tips.

1

Support the local economy

Once at your destination, there are several opportunities to support the local economy. Eat at local restaurants serving local dishes, for example. Often these ingredients come from the region, which is better for the environment. For unique souvenirs, visit a local entrepreneur. Or have a local guide show you around during your trip. This way, you will not only discover the most special places, but also support the locals.

2

Travel further by public transport

Travel locally easily and quickly by public transport. For example, by train, bus, tram or metro. This will save you a lot of CO2 emissions. Besides, it is a unique and adventurous way of travelling around at your destination. On public transport, you immediately get to know the daily life and culture of the locals.

3

Rent an electric car

Would you prefer to use your own car during your trip? We understand that. After all, it is convenience and saves time. Consider using an electric car. More and more car rental companies are offering this option. So, you can enjoy a more carefree and sustainable trip.

4

Spend the night in a sustainable hotel

You can also make a difference with an overnight stay. Sleeping in a sustainable hotel contributes to a better environment. Eco-hotels, for example, use green electricity or other renewable energy sources, and separate waste. In addition, these accommodation are often committed to helping the local people and pay employees fair wages.

At Transavia, we are constantly looking for new ways to fly more sustainably. For instance, our goal is to travel with at least 14% renewable fuel by 2030. What else we do? Read more on our sustainability page!
