How will my wheelchair or scoot mobile be transported?

Wheeled walker

If you are travelling with a wheeled walker, you must notify us of this at least 48 hours in advance. You can take your wheeled walker up to the airplane. Just before boarding, the wheeled walker will be put in the hold for transport. On arrival, the airport staff will help you to the baggage carousel. There, you can collect your wheeled walker from the baggage carousel.

Wheelchairs without a battery

Your wheelchair is checked in at the check-in desk and transported as hold luggage.

Electric wheelchairs (with battery) and scoot mobiles

You can take a wheelchair or scoot mobile with a dry or wet battery on our planes. Mention this when booking or via My Transavia. Your wheelchair lithium-ion battery can have a maximum capacity of 300Wh (one battery allowed) or two batteries of 160Wh per piece. Please note that transporting your battery in the cabin may be imposed on you; please refer to and comply with the conditions applicable to the transport of your battery specified below.

In the event that your electric wheelchair or electric scooter exceeds 85cm in height, specific transport conditions specified below apply.

Conditions for transporting a dry (leak-proof) battery:

You are personally responsible for preparing your wheelchair/scoot mobile for travel. So, do consider the time you will need to do that.

  • Disconnect and attach the battery securely to the wheelchair or scoot mobile;
  • Prevent a short circuit by insulating the poles with tape;
  • You do not need packaging for the battery.

If you cannot disconnect the dry battery, there must be a main switch or master switch that is in the off position or there must be a control unit that you can disconnect.

Conditions for transporting a wet (non-leak-proof) battery:

  • Your wheelchair/scoot mobile and battery are transported upright (max. 86 cm high);
  • Disconnect the battery and attach it securely to the wheelchair/scoot mobile;
  • Prevent a short circuit by insulating the poles with tape;
  • Is your wheelchair/scoot mobile higher than 86 cm? Then we will need to transport your wheelchair/scoot mobile on its side. Remove the battery and ensure it is transported in heavy-duty packaging.

Conditions for battery packaging:

  • The packaging must be leak-proof and resistant to battery acid;
  • The battery must be protected from damage when being placed in the hold;
  • Prevent a short circuit by insulating the poles with tape;
  • The battery is secured upright in the packaging;
  • The battery is surrounded by sufficient absorbent material that can absorb all contents if necessary;
  • The packaging states the following: BATTERIES, WET, WITH WHEELCHAIR and has the danger label: CORROSIVE and arrow labels.
