What are the requirements for pets’ travel documents?
Your pet must have a passport called "pet passport." This must be issued by an authorized veterinarian. The passport must include the following details:
- Valid rabies vaccinations. Your pet must be vaccinated at least 21 days before departure.
- The rules for the medical certificate included in the passport differ depending on the country. To learn the applicable rules in your destination country, contact the embassy or consulate of that country.
However, please note that for animals coming from third countries (territories outside the EU), a document proving a rabies antibody titration test will also be required”.
To fly with your pet, it must be chipped for identification with an electronic identification system (transponder). Was your pet tattooed in a clearly visible place before 3 July 2011? If so, your pet can also travel within the European Union with this tattoo.
The pet passport is mandatory to travel with your pets, including within the French domestic network.
Please note! if you are flying to Malta with a dog, your pet must be treated for tapeworm between 5 days and 24 hours before departure.
Similarly, if you are arriving from Turkey, please read carefully the conditions for importing animals from this country: https://tr.ambafrance.org/Animaux-3721#:~:text=Le%20site%20du%20minist%C3%A8re%20turc,v%C3%A9t%C3%A9rinaire%20de%20bonne%20sant%C3%A9%20r%C3%A9cent.
