What am I entitled to if my flight is delayed?

In the event of a delay of 45 minutes or longer, you will be informed of the delay by email and text message. If you experience a delay, please report to the handling staff at the airport.

Delay of 2 hours or more
In case of a delay of two hours or longer, you are entitled to receive what is known as extra care. This extra care will depend on the distance of the flight and the length of the delay. At the very least you will be entitled to:

  • An allowance for a drink and/or meal in proportion to the waiting time;
  • Does the delay mean that you have to stay one or more extra nights at your destination? In that case, we will arrange accommodation and transport to/from the airport and your accommodation.

If you’ve booked your ticket directly with Transavia or through a travel agency, you can use this claim form. This is also how you apply for a reimbursement of expenses. In both cases, make sure you have your booking details and any receipts for expenses incurred ready.

Delay of 5 hours or more
If your flight has been delayed for 5 hours or longer, you also have the right to cancel your ticket free of charge. If you no longer wish to fly, you may request a full refund of the cost of your ticket, compensation, and reimbursement of expenses incurred by using this contact form if you booked directly with Transavia. Make sure you have your booking details, such as flight number, flight date, and booking number ready when making the request.

Did you book through a travel agency and you want to cancel your ticket? Then ask for a refund of the ticket cost through your travel agency.

Do you still want to take the flight despite the delay? Then you cannot ask for a refund of your ticket costs.

For more information, please go to the website of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT). The ILT is the body in the Netherlands that oversees compliance with aviation regulations.
