Am I entitled to compensation if my flight is cancelled?
We sometimes have to cancel a flight due to ‘extraordinary circumstances’. These are circumstances beyond our control. Extraordinary circumstances include strikes, adverse weather conditions, security-related issues and unexpected flight safety issues.
If we cancel your flight for reasons and there are no circumstances beyond our control, you are entitled to financial compensation. Please note that this does not apply if:
- We inform you of your flight cancellation at least two weeks before the originally scheduled departure time.
- We inform you of the cancellation of your flight between two weeks and seven days before the originally scheduled departure time and we offer you an alternative flight to your destination, for which the new departure time is no earlier than two hours before the scheduled departure time of the cancelled flight and the new arrival time is no more than four hours after the original arrival time.
- We inform you of the cancellation of your flight within seven days before the originally scheduled departure time and we offer you an alternative flight to your destination, for which the departure time is no earlier than one hour before the scheduled departure time of the cancelled flight and the new arrival time is no more than two hours after the original arrival time;
If you are entitled to compensation, the amount will depend on the length of the flight:
- €250
For flights shorter than 1500 km - €400
For flights within the EU, longer than 1500 km - €400
For other flights between 1500 and 3500 km - €600
For flights longer than 3500 km
If we have offered you an alternative flight, we are entitled to decrease the compensation by half. A condition for this is that the difference between the arrival time of the new flight and the scheduled arrival time of the original flight does not exceed the number of hours stated below:
- Flights up to 1500 km: 2 hours
- For flights within the EU longer than 1500 km and for flights outside the EU between 1500 and 3500 km: 3 hours
- Flights longer than 3500 km: 4 hours
